We’re happy to announce the first software update to the reMarkable paper tablet and its corresponding applications for iOS, Android, PC and Mac. This is just the beginning of an ever-evolving update of the reMarkable paper tablet experience. In addition to these updates, we’re working on hundreds of other improvements and are looking forward to introducing more features in future updates. Read on below to learn all about the most important updates and improvements we’ve worked on.
New functionality
Light sleep
Light sleep allows you to view your content while preserving battery. Light sleep is enabled automatically after 20 minutes of inactivity and can not be activated manually.
- To wake the device from light sleep, simply press the home button or the prev/next buttons on the device.
- reMarkable will go into full sleep mode 3 hours after inactivity, or 2 hours and 40 minutes after light sleep if automatic sleep is activated (see Power management settings).
Power management settings
The new power management settings enable you to control whether reMarkable automatically goes into power saving mode after a defined period of inactivity. If enabled, these settings will help conserve the battery and make your reMarkable last for longer in between charging sessions.
Simply open Power settings to enable and disable the following functions:
- Automatic sleep; activated 3 hours after inactivity, or 2 hours and 40 minutes after light sleep has been activated.
- Automatic power off; activated 12 hours after inactivity, or 11 hours and 40 minutes after light sleep has been activated.
Full disk mode
reMarkable will go into full disk mode when approaching the storage limit of the device. This implies that syncing between devices is temporarily paused and duplication of content is not possible until free space is made available.
Please note that it is still possible to write while in full disk mode, but your content will not be synced.
Pinch zoom on mobile
The mobile apps now support pinch zoom in documents to provide a better reading experience (Android and iOS).
Improved functionality
Wi-Fi connectivity
There is now support for a greater range of Wi-Fi connections, including some networks that require both a username and password. The password will now be hidden when connecting to a network.
Remember the last used writing tool.
No more having to re-select your favorite pen stroke, size and color each time you use the eraser. This fix implies that the writing tool you are using, whether it’s a pen, brush or pencil, will remain selected, even in the minimal menu and across document sessions.
Import of files on mobile:
File import through the mobile app is now better supported, including the possibility for importing ebooks.
Desktop selection of multiple files
The new release will allow users to select and deselect items in the desktop application in a more intuitive manner, similar to standards from Windows and iOS operating systems.
- Use the SHIFT button to select/deselect a list of items
- Use the CTRL/CMD button to select/ deselect single items
Export files
The export of files function is now improved for a better user experience.
Updated icon
The icon for the brush tool has been updated to be more intuitive. |
Fixed functionality
Crop:
A fix for cropped files that appeared differently in the mobile and desktop apps, as well as in exported files. This also includes annotations appearing incorrectly when cropped.
Battery indication:
The battery percentage introduced in ver. 1.0 may in some cases misinform the user of the remaining battery capacity. To avoid confusion the percentage has now been removed and replaced with a battery capacity icon.
Wi-Fi notification:
When the device is disconnected from Wi-Fi, a notification in the notification center on the homescreen will appear. This notification is now clickable and will take you directly to Wi-Fi settings.
Stabilized touch input after sleep:
Finger input has in some instances not been possible after the device has been wakened from sleep. This has now been fixed.
Windows 7 fix:
Some of our Windows 7 users experienced stability issues with the desktop app which has now been fixed.
Improved LiveView stability
