Help using Screen Share (Mac)
Read this article if you’re having trouble using our Screen Share feature on your Mac.
Here’s a few things to check before using Screen Share:
- You need to be connected to the reMarkable cloud with an active Connect subscription
- Make sure you have the reMarkable desktop app installed (Version 2.8.1 or newer)
- Check that both your device and desktop are connected to the same Wi-Fi network*
- Make sure to set the network settings to ‘Private’ on your Mac
- If you’re using a VPN service, you’ll need to disable it before you can use Screen Share
*Guest networks or Wi-Fi networks using a secure gateway can interfere with Screen Share. Try checking on your home network, or mobile hot-spot if you can’t connect.
You can also use a USB-C cable to share your screen on your desktop without Wi-Fi.
Using Screen Share at the office
Business networks normally have a higher degree of security, which might block Screen Share from working. We recommend contacting your IT department if you’re having trouble using Screen Share at work.
Adjusting your firewall settings
Your firewall or other security settings can prevent Screen Share from working correctly. Try configuring your firewall or antivirus to allow the reMarkable desktop app to run, and see if that helps.
Here’s how to make a firewall exception if your firewall is blocking Screen Share:
1. Go to System Preferences.
2. Click Security or Security & Privacy.
3. Click Firewall Options.
4. Click the plus sign to add a firewall exception.
5. Choose the reMarkable desktop app.
6. Restart the reMarkable app before trying to use Screen Share on your reMarkable.
In firewall settings, check that inbound connections are allowed from the reMarkable app. Here’s how:
1. Go to System Preferences.
2. Click Security or Security & Privacy.
3. Click Firewall Options.
4. Find the reMarkable app in the list.
5. Select Allow incoming connections if incoming connections are blocked.
6. Click OK to confirm.
7. Restart the reMarkable app before trying to use Screen Share on your reMarkable.
